Vehicle Registration
Vehicle Registration in Texas Combines Inspection and Registration
Texas combines the annual vehicle inspection and registration into one process, and Grayson County residents renew through the county tax office.
Texas uses a program called Two Steps, One Sticker. You get a vehicle inspection first, then register with the county. Both steps happen before you can display a valid registration sticker. The old inspection sticker is gone — the registration sticker now serves as the proof.
In Grayson County, vehicle registration is handled by the Tax Assessor-Collector's office at 100 W. Houston St. in Sherman. You can also renew online through TxDMV. The inspection step must be completed at a licensed inspection station before you renew. Check the TxDMV website for the current calendar of expiration months.
