Vehicle Inspection and Registration Work Together in Texas
Texas changed its vehicle inspection rules on January 1, 2025 — non-commercial vehicles in most Texas counties, including Tom Green, no longer need a safety inspection to renew registration.
As of January 1, 2025, Texas no longer requires a safety inspection for non-commercial vehicles before registration renewal. You simply renew your registration — online, by mail, or in person at the Tom Green County Tax Office in San Angelo. Commercial vehicles still require a passing inspection regardless of county.
Tom Green County is not one of the 17 Texas counties that require an emissions test. Because it is also not subject to emissions testing, non-commercial vehicles registered here require no inspection at all to renew registration. Contact the county tax office for current hours and locations.
