Texas eliminated the annual safety inspection requirement for most non-commercial vehicles on January 1, 2025, under House Bill 3297. You renew your registration online, by mail, or at a Cameron County Tax Office location.
The Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector handles registrations and title transfers at ten locations across the county. Commercial vehicles still require annual inspections regardless of county. Check txdmv.gov for current fees and rules, as these can change.
