Getting Around Presidio County: US 67 and Remote Roads

US 67 is the main highway through Presidio County, and many back roads flood or wash out during storms.

US 67 runs 142 miles from Fort Stockton to the Presidio-Ojinaga port of entry on the Mexican border. It connects Marfa, Alpine, and Presidio. TxDOT has a corridor study for this route because it carries freight and serves as the only practical highway in much of this region.

Away from the highway, roads are unpaved and arroyos — dry creek beds — can flash-flood fast with little warning. Never drive around a barrier at a low-water crossing. Texas law makes that a fineable offense, and the water can be deeper and faster than it looks. Check drivetexas.org or the TxDOT travel page for current road conditions before driving remote ranch roads.
