No Emissions Test Required for Most Vehicles in Val Verde County
Val Verde County is not on the list of Texas counties that require vehicle emissions testing, so most drivers only need to register and pay fees.
Texas only requires emissions testing in certain counties, mostly larger urban ones. Val Verde County is not on that list. As of January 1, 2025, a state law also ended the yearly safety inspection for most non-commercial vehicles before registration. That means most drivers in Val Verde County can register their vehicle without any inspection.
You register at the Val Verde County Tax Office at 309 Mill St. in Del Rio. That office also handles TxDMV vehicle registration. Check the TxDMV website for current fees and any rule changes before you go.
