Vehicle Registration in Zapata County: No Emissions Test Required

Zapata County is not one of the Texas counties that requires an emissions inspection, so renewing your vehicle registration involves only a standard safety inspection.

Texas uses a program called Two Steps, One Sticker. You pass a vehicle inspection first, then renew your registration — and one sticker covers both. Zapata County is not in the group of counties that requires an emissions (smog) test. You only need the standard safety check.

The Zapata County Tax Assessor-Collector handles vehicle registration at 200 E. 7th Ave., Suite 226, in Zapata. Phone: 956-765-9971. You can also renew online through TxDMV. Registration is due on the last day of your birth month or the month shown on your sticker. Check TxDMV for current fees and accepted payment methods.
