Vehicle registration
Texas Two Steps, One Sticker: how vehicle registration works in Bexar County
Texas combined vehicle inspection and registration into one step. You pass inspection, then renew registration, and one sticker goes on your windshield.
Texas uses a program called Two Steps, One Sticker. Step one: get your vehicle inspected at a state-certified station. Step two: renew your registration online, by mail, or in person at the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector's office. TxDMV then sends one sticker that proves both your registration and your passed inspection.
As of January 1, 2025, annual safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles are no longer needed. But starting November 1, 2026, Bexar County will need a passing emissions inspection to register gasoline-powered vehicles that are 2 to 24 years old. Bexar County will join other Texas counties that already test emissions. The DPS website has a locator to find a certified emissions station near you.
The Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector main office is at 233 N. Pecos La Trinidad in San Antonio. Branch offices are in northeast, northwest, and south San Antonio, and on East Loop 1604. Check bexar.org for hours and locations. Go to txdmv.gov to renew your registration.
