No safety inspection required for registration renewal in Henderson County
As of January 1, 2025, Texas ended the mandatory safety inspection for non-commercial vehicles statewide. Henderson County is not an emissions-testing county, so most passenger vehicles renew registration without any inspection.
Texas House Bill 3297 ended safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles on January 1, 2025. You no longer need an inspection before you renew your registration. A $7.50 fee is added to your renewal bill instead. That fee replaced the old inspection program.
Some Texas counties require emissions testing. Henderson County is not one of the 17 that do. Commercial vehicles still need a safety inspection in every county. You can renew online through TxDMV, by mail, or in person at the Henderson County Tax Assessor-Collector's office.
