New Water Wells Require Registration with the Middle Trinity GCD
If you plan to drill a water well in Comanche County, you must register it with the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District.
Comanche County falls under the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District (MTGCD). A groundwater conservation district is a local government body that manages water wells in its area. The MTGCD covers Bosque, Comanche, Coryell, and Erath counties. It operates under Chapter 36 of the Texas Water Code.
If you plan to drill a water well, you must register it with the MTGCD before you start. Skipping registration can lead to fines or legal trouble. Rules were last amended in November 2025, so check the current version before you drill.
Contact the MTGCD at middletrinitygcd.org, call 254-965-6705, or email wells@middletrinitygcd.org. Always confirm current requirements directly with the district, since rules can change.
