Wichita County Has Hot Summers and Cold Winters

Wichita County averages a high of 98°F in July and a low near 28°F in January, with about 27 inches of annual rainfall spread unevenly through the year.

Summers here are very hot. Temperatures hit triple digits regularly from June through August. The Hotter 'N Hell bicycle race in late August gets its name from these conditions. Winters can bring freezing temps and ice storms. Ice makes roads and bridges dangerous.

Rain averages about 27 inches a year, but it does not fall evenly. Spring can bring heavy rain and flooding. Summer often turns dry. Dry spells can trigger lawn watering limits and hurt farms and lake levels. The National Weather Service office in Norman, Oklahoma covers this area. Check weather.gov for forecasts and current conditions.
