Wildfire Risk

Most of Kendall County's new growth sits in wildfire territory

Texas A&M Forest Service found that 94 percent of Kendall County's growth is happening in the wildland-urban interface, where wildfires are most common.

The wildland-urban interface — where homes meet undeveloped land — is where most Texas wildfires start and spread. Kendall County adopted a Community Wildfire Protection Plan in August 2023 to reduce that risk. The plan required more than 3,000 volunteer hours.

Burn bans are issued when conditions are dangerous. The county posts current burn ban status on its website. Creating defensible space around your home — removing dry brush and dead leaves — is the most practical step homeowners can take.
