Hunting

Hunting in Menard County is mostly on private land with leases

Menard County is prime Hill Country hunting country, but nearly all land is private — most access comes through hunting leases or the TPWD public hunting permit program.

White-tailed deer, turkey, dove, and feral hogs are all common in Menard County. Almost all of the land is privately owned. Most hunters get access through paid leases or by knowing a landowner.

The Menard County Wildlife Management Association is a group of local private landowners. They work together to manage wildlife across their properties.

Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) offers an Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit. It gives access to public hunting areas across Texas. Use the TPWD public hunting search tool to check if any areas near Menard County are listed. Bag limits and seasons change each year. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt. A license and any required permits are needed.
