The Wyler Aerial Tramway at Franklin Mountains Is Being Rebuilt

The Wyler Aerial Tramway at Franklin Mountains State Park is closed for rebuilding. Texas got $27 million to reconstruct it.

The Wyler Aerial Tramway used to take visitors up to Ranger Peak. That is on the east side of the Franklin Mountains, 5,632 feet above sea level. From the top, you could see into three states and two countries. The tramway closed in 2018. An engineering review found it had passed its safe lifespan.

Texas Parks and Wildlife got $27 million in state funding to rebuild it. Phase I work includes more parking, better access for people with disabilities, and new visitor areas. The park at 1700 McKinley is only open during guided programs while construction is going on. Check the TPWD website before you visit to see the current status.
