Zebra Mussels in Lake Texoma Mean You Must Drain Your Boat Before Leaving

Lake Texoma has established zebra mussels, an invasive species, so state law requires boaters to drain all water from boats, livewells, and bait buckets before leaving.

Zebra mussels spread from lake to lake through water carried in boats. Texas law requires anyone leaving a body of water with zebra mussels to drain all water from their boat, motor, and any container that held water. You must do this before you leave the lake access area.

Failure to drain can result in a fine. The rule applies to kayaks and canoes too, not just motorboats. If you are heading to another lake after Texoma, make sure everything is drained and dry. TPWD has a full list of infested waters on its website.
