Agricultural Appraisal
Ag Valuation: Lower Taxes for Working Land
Land used for farming, ranching, or wildlife management can be taxed on its agricultural value instead of its full market value.
Texas allows a special appraisal called 1-d-1 (also called ag valuation). Instead of market value, the land is taxed on what it could earn from farming or ranching. This can cut the taxable value sharply on rural tracts.
The Guadalupe Appraisal District handles ag applications for the county. If you stop using the land for ag purposes, a rollback tax applies — you owe back taxes for the previous three years at the higher market rate. Contact the GAD ag team at aglanduse@guadalupead.org before making land-use changes.
