Ag Valuation

Agricultural valuation can cut land taxes dramatically

Land used for farming, ranching, or wildlife management may qualify for much lower tax values in Parker County.

Texas law lets farm and ranch land be taxed on what it produces, not on what it would sell for. In a fast-growing county like Parker, that gap can be very large. Qualifying uses include crops, livestock, hay, orchards, and wildlife management.

The land must have been used for ag purposes for at least five of the past seven years. The Parker County Appraisal District (PCAD) sets the local rules. PCAD is the office that values your property each year. They decide how many acres of what activity qualifies. If you stop the ag use, a rollback tax can kick in. It covers the three prior years in which the land received the lower appraisal. Apply through PCAD. Ask them what acreage and activity is needed for your land type. The Texas Comptroller's ag valuation page covers the statewide rules.
