Homestead Exemption
How the homestead exemption works in Parker County
Homeowners who live in their home on January 1 can apply to lower their taxable value and cap yearly appraisal increases.
Texas law gives homeowners a homestead exemption if the home is their main residence on January 1 of the tax year. In Parker County, you apply through the Parker County Appraisal District at parkercad.org.
The exemption does two things. First, it removes part of your home's value from taxation — the school district portion alone removed $140,000 as of 2025, up from $100,000. Second, it limits how much your appraised value can rise in any one year to 10 percent. To apply, you need a Texas driver license or state ID showing your home address. Check parkercad.org for current deadlines and the online application.
