Vehicle Registration

Parker County requires an emissions test before registration

Because Parker County is part of the DFW air quality zone, most vehicles need an annual emissions test to renew registration.

Parker County is in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Because of that, TCEQ — the state's environmental agency — requires emissions testing on most vehicles. Gas-powered vehicles that are 2 to 24 years old must pass a test each year before you can renew registration.

Texas calls this the 'Two Steps, One Sticker' system. Step one: pass the emissions test. Step two: register the vehicle. Electric vehicles, diesel vehicles, motorcycles, and mopeds do not need the test. You renew registration through the Parker County Tax Assessor-Collector. If your vehicle fails, call TCEQ's program line at 1-888-295-0141. Check the TCEQ page for the current list of exempt vehicles and nearby testing stations.
