Two Offices Handle Your Property Tax in Galveston County
The appraisal district sets your property value; the tax office collects what you owe — and they are two separate offices.
Galveston Central Appraisal District (GCAD) decides what your property is worth each year. That value is used to figure out your tax bill. GCAD is in Texas City, not Galveston. Their number is 409-935-1980.
After GCAD sets the value, the Tax Assessor-Collector sends your bill and collects payment. That office is on Moody Avenue in Galveston. If you think your value is wrong, you protest with GCAD — not the tax office. Check galvestoncad.org or galcotax.com to get started.
