Paddling
Galveston County Has Coastal Paddling Trails on the Bay and Bayous
Kayakers and canoeists can explore coastal marshes, bayous, and bay waters around Galveston Island using TPWD-mapped paddling trails.
Texas Parks and Wildlife has mapped paddling trails along the Galveston area coast. Galveston Island State Park has canoe and kayak launches on the bay side, with named access points at Como Lake, Oak Bayou, and Jenkins Bayou. The calm bay waters are good for beginners; conditions on open water require more experience and are weather-dependent.
Conditions in coastal Texas can change fast — wind, tide, and boat traffic all matter. Wear a life jacket and check weather before heading out. TPWD's paddling trails guide for the Galveston area is available at tpwd.texas.gov.
