Growth & Development
Parker County is a fast-growing edge of the DFW metro
Parker County's population grew from about 33,000 in 1970 to over 123,000 by 2014 as DFW sprawl moved west.
Parker County is 30 miles west of Fort Worth. Its population about doubled between 1990 and 2014. Suburban growth pushed west along I-20 and US-180. Cities like Aledo, Hudson Oaks, and Willow Park saw a lot of new homes built.
Fast growth brings rising property values and more taxing districts. It also puts stress on rural roads. If you are buying land near the county's eastern edge, check whether it is inside a Municipal Utility District (MUD) or a Public Improvement District (PID). These are special districts that add fees to your property tax bill. The Parker County Appraisal District and the Comptroller's taxing unit list can show which districts apply to a given address.
