Disabled Veterans Can Get Big Property Tax Breaks in Galveston County

Texas veterans with a 100% service-connected disability rating pay no property tax on their home. Partial ratings get partial exemptions.

If the VA gives you a 100% service-connected disability rating, your Texas home is fully exempt from property taxes. That covers all taxing units — county, city, school district, and special districts. Surviving spouses of service members killed or fatally injured in the line of duty can also qualify for an exemption.

Veterans with partial ratings from 10% to 99% get a smaller exemption. The amount goes up with the rating. Apply through the Galveston County Appraisal District. You will need VA paperwork showing your rating. Visit galvestoncad.org or call 409-935-1980 for the application process.
