Fishing
Galveston Bay Is One of Texas's Most Productive Fishing Areas
Galveston Bay and the Gulf waters off the island offer speckled trout, redfish, flounder, and more — all regulated by Texas Parks and Wildlife.
The bay system around Galveston Island is a major fishing destination. Popular target species include spotted seatrout, red drum, black drum, and flounder. Texas requires a fishing license for most anglers 17 and older. Bag limits and size rules apply — for example, flounder has a closed season in fall. Check the current rules before you go.
You can also fish from shore at Galveston Island State Park without a license. For offshore Gulf fishing, you will need a saltwater fishing license with a Gulf coast license package. Find up-to-date regulations and license options at tpwd.texas.gov or the Outdoor Annual app.
