Fort Parker State Park: Camping and Fishing Near Groesbeck

Fort Parker State Park sits along the Navasota River in Limestone County and offers camping, fishing, hiking, and paddling.

The park is at 194 Park Road 28 near Mexia, between Mexia and Groesbeck. It has a 750-acre lake built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. You can fish for bass, catfish, and crappie. Shore fishing does not require a license, but fishing from a boat on the river does.

Camping options include campsites, screened shelters, and cabins. A group barracks sleeps up to 78 people. Day use costs $5 for adults; children 12 and under are free. The park gets busy on spring and fall weekends, so reservations are recommended. Check TPWD's site for current fees and availability before you go.
