Guadalupe Mountains National Park sits partly in Culberson County

Guadalupe Mountains National Park protects the highest peaks in Texas and a vast ancient reef, with trails open to hikers and backpackers.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park straddles the Culberson County line near the New Mexico border. The park contains the four highest peaks in Texas, including Guadalupe Peak at 8,751 feet. It also preserves a Permian-era fossil reef — one of the most complete of its kind in the world.

The park is open year-round. Popular activities include day hiking, backpacking, and birding. Fall and spring are the busiest seasons; the park can reach capacity on peak weekends. Dogs are prohibited on most trails. Cell service is limited in the area. Check the NPS website for current entrance fees, trail conditions, and camping availability before you go.
