Hunting in Culberson County — mule deer, pronghorn, and more

Culberson County is in the Trans-Pecos hunting zone and offers mule deer, pronghorn, and upland game — but pronghorn requires a special landowner permit.

Culberson County falls in the Trans-Pecos region for hunting purposes. Mule deer season runs in fall under TPWD-set dates. White-tailed deer, javelina, quail, and dove are also legal game, each with their own season. Javelina can be hunted year-round in this county.

Pronghorn hunting is different. It is permit-only and restricted to a short October window. Permits go to landowners in areas with huntable pronghorn populations. If you are leasing land for hunting, ask the landowner whether pronghorn permits apply. Most migratory birds require a Migratory Game Bird Endorsement and HIP Certification in addition to your hunting license. Check the TPWD Outdoor Annual for current season dates and bag limits — these change year to year.
