Rainbow Trout Are Stocked in the Guadalupe River in Winter
TPWD stocks rainbow trout in the Guadalupe River during cooler months, giving local anglers a rare cold-water fishing option.
The Guadalupe River is one of the few places in Texas where you can catch rainbow trout. TPWD stocks them when water temperatures are cool enough, typically in fall and winter. Stocking spots include Guadalupe River State Park and several public access points along the river.
A standard Texas fishing license is required to fish here. Rainbow trout are not native to Texas, so TPWD adds them each season to give anglers a rare cold-water fishing option. Check tpwd.texas.gov for current stocking schedules and any special rules that apply to the trout stretch of the river.
