Homestead Exemption

Homestead exemption lowers your taxable value

If Hunt County is your primary residence, a homestead exemption reduces the taxable value on your property tax bill.

You apply once through Hunt CAD. The exemption applies to your home only if it is your principal residence as of January 1 of the tax year. Once approved, the appraised value of your home cannot rise more than 10 percent per year regardless of market conditions.

Additional exemptions exist for residents who are over 65, disabled, or disabled veterans. Download the application form from hunt-cad.org or call 903-454-3510. Deadlines and exact dollar amounts change, so confirm the current deadline on the CAD site before filing.
