Property Tax Basics

Two offices handle your property tax bill

The Hunt County Appraisal District sets your property value; the Hunt County Tax Office sends the bill and collects payment — they are separate offices.

Hunt CAD (Hunt County Appraisal District) assigns a value to your property each year. That value is used by every taxing unit — the county, your school district, the city — to calculate what you owe.

If you think your value is too high, you protest with Hunt CAD, not the tax office. The Tax Assessor-Collector (hctax.info) sends your bill and takes your payment. Hunt County has 48 active taxing units, including multiple school districts. Your bill depends on which units cover your parcel.
