Homestead Exemption

A homestead exemption can lower your Jackson County tax bill

If your home in Jackson County is your main residence, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces your taxable value.

A homestead exemption is a discount on your property's taxable value. You must own the home and live in it as your main residence. Texas law also offers extra exemptions for people who are 65 or older or who have a disability.

You file with the Jackson Central Appraisal District (JCAD) in Edna. The general filing deadline is before May 1, but check the JCAD website for the current year's exact date. Since 2022, if you buy a home mid-year, you can apply for a pro-rated exemption right away instead of waiting until the following year.
