Windstorm Insurance

Jackson County is not in the TWIA windstorm insurance zone

Unlike its coastal neighbors, Jackson County is not covered by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, so you will need a standard private insurer for wind coverage.

TWIA is the state's insurer of last resort for wind and hail damage on the Texas coast. It covers 14 first-tier coastal counties. Jackson County is not on that list. That means you cannot get a TWIA policy here.

This does not mean wind damage is not a risk — Jackson County is close enough to the Gulf that strong tropical storms can reach it. But you must buy wind coverage through a private insurance company. Ask your insurer specifically whether your policy includes wind and hail, since some policies exclude those perils. For flood risk on your specific property, check the FEMA Flood Map Service Center.
