Homestead Exemption
Homestead exemption can lower your property tax bill in Refugio County
If you own and live in your home in Refugio County, you can apply for a homestead exemption to reduce what you owe in property taxes.
A homestead exemption lowers the taxable value of your home. That means you pay less in property taxes. To qualify, you must own the home and use it as your main residence. You can only have one homestead exemption, and it must be for your primary home.
You apply through the Refugio County Appraisal District. There is no fee to apply. Once approved, you do not need to reapply each year unless your situation changes. The Texas Comptroller has the official application form (Form 50-114) on its website. Check with RCAD for the current filing deadline, as deadlines can change.
