Two offices handle your property taxes in Refugio County

The appraisal district sets your property value; a separate tax office collects the bill.

In Refugio County, two offices handle property taxes. The Refugio County Appraisal District (RCAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. A separate Tax Assessor/Collector office sends the bill and takes your payment. These are not the same office.

If you think your value is too high, you dispute it with RCAD, not the tax collector. RCAD is at 420 N. Alamo St. in Refugio. The Tax Office is at 808 Commerce St., Room 109. There are 13 taxing units in the county, including the county itself, three school districts, four cities, and five special districts.
