How the Homestead Exemption Works in Titus County
If you own and live in your home in Titus County, you can apply for a homestead exemption that lowers your taxable property value.
Texas law requires school districts to take $140,000 off the taxable value of your main home. That means you pay school taxes on a lower number. Other taxing units — like the county — can add their own exemptions on top of that.
To get the exemption, you file an application with the Titus County Appraisal District. You must include a copy of your Texas driver's license showing your home address. The general deadline is April 30, but Texas also allows late filing in some cases. Check titus-cad.org for current forms and deadlines, since they can change.
