Save Money with a Homestead Exemption

If Walker County is your main home, a homestead exemption can lower your taxable property value and cut your tax bill.

A homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your home. To qualify, you must own the property and live there as your main residence on January 1 of the tax year. You only apply once — you don't need to reapply every year unless you move or WCAD asks you to.

When you apply, you must provide a Texas driver's license or state ID. The address on your ID must match the home address. Other exemptions are available for people who are 65 or older, disabled, or are disabled veterans. Contact Walker CAD at (936) 295-0402 to learn what exemption amounts currently apply.
