Huntsville State Park: Camping and Fishing Near Houston

Huntsville State Park sits inside Sam Houston National Forest and offers camping, hiking, and fishing on a 210-acre lake just 60 miles north of Houston.

The park is at 565 Park Road 40 W in Huntsville. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Day use costs $7 per person age 13 and older. The park has 160 campsites, screened shelters, and 21 miles of trails for hiking and biking.

Lake Raven is the park's centerpiece. It covers about 210 acres and holds largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and redear sunfish. Boats are allowed but must travel at idle speed only. The lake has a boat ramp, fishing piers, and fish cleaning stations. Alligators live in the park — follow posted safety signs. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.
