Hurricane Season Runs June Through November in Galveston County

Galveston County is on the Gulf Coast and faces real hurricane risk every year from June 1 through November 30.

Galveston Island is very exposed to storms. It is a barrier island with low elevation. Even a moderate hurricane can send storm surge flooding across roads. That can cut off escape routes fast. The county and city of Galveston issue evacuation orders when a storm is coming. Ignoring those orders can cost you your life.

Get ready before June 1. Know your evacuation zone. Make a plan for your pets. Keep important documents where you can grab them quickly. Check your insurance coverage before storm season starts.
