Big Game Hunting

Mule deer and pronghorn also roam Midland County

Midland County sits in the Trans-Pecos zone for mule deer and the Permian Basin permit zone for pronghorn, giving hunters two additional big game options.

Mule deer general season runs November 28 through December 14, 2025, with archery starting September 27. The bag limit is 1 buck for all seasons combined. Pronghorn season is October 4-19, 2025, and requires a special permit issued to landowners in the Permian Basin area — they are not available over the counter.

Both species live mostly on large private ranches in this area. If you are considering buying land where you hope to hunt, confirm whether pronghorn permits have historically been available on that property. Check tpwd.texas.gov/regulations for the current Outdoor Annual.
