New Texans Must Register Their Vehicle Within 30 Days
If you move to Ector County from another state, you have 30 days to register your vehicle and get a Texas driver's license.
Moving to Odessa or anywhere in Ector County from out of state means you need to act quickly on your vehicle and license. Texas law requires new residents to register their vehicle within 30 days. You'll also need to get a Texas driver's license within 90 days.
Bring your out-of-state title to the Ector County Tax Office at 1010 E. 8th St., Room 100 to register. No vehicle safety inspection is required for non-commercial vehicles in Ector County — as of January 1, 2025, Texas eliminated the safety inspection requirement, and Ector County is not one of the 17 emissions-testing counties. For a driver's license, visit a Texas DPS office. The TxDMV New to Texas page walks through all the steps.
