Oil History

Oil Was Discovered in Eastern Guadalupe County in the 1920s

Oil production began in eastern Guadalupe County during the 1920s at the Darst Creek fields, diversifying the local economy.

Oil was found in eastern Guadalupe County during the 1920s. The Darst Creek fields sit about 15 miles east of Seguin. They brought new jobs and money to the area, adding to the farming and ranching already there.

If you own or buy land in the eastern part of the county, mineral rights may come up in the deal. In Texas, mineral rights can be split off from surface rights. That means the seller may not own the oil and gas under the land and may not be selling those rights to you. Always ask about mineral rights before you buy.
