Oil & Gas

Parker County has natural gas production managed by the Railroad Commission

Parker County produces natural gas, and the Texas Railroad Commission regulates drilling, wells, and mineral rights activity in the county.

Oil and gas activity in Parker County increased significantly after 1966. The county is primarily a gas-producing area — the Handbook of Texas recorded nearly 32.6 billion cubic feet of gas-well gas produced in 1982, with limited oil output.

If you are buying land in Parker County, ask whether the mineral rights are included or severed. In Texas, mineral rights can be owned separately from surface rights. The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) regulates all oil and gas drilling and has searchable permit and well data at rrc.texas.gov. If a well is proposed on your land, the RRC governs the process.
