Growth & Development
Guadalupe County Is Growing Fast
Guadalupe County has grown rapidly in recent decades, driven largely by its location between San Antonio and Austin on the I-35 corridor.
The county's population stood at about 166,000 in 2019, up from roughly 90,000 in 2000. That is nearly double in less than 20 years. Cities like Schertz, Cibolo, and Marion along the I-35 corridor have grown especially fast as people moved out of Bexar County.
Fast growth brings more new subdivisions and more special taxing districts called MUDs. It also puts heavier demand on roads, water, and schools. If you are buying in a newer development, check whether a MUD tax is added on top of your county, city, and school taxes. That extra layer can raise your total bill by a noticeable amount.
