Possum Kingdom State Park is about an hour away

Parker County has no state park of its own, but Possum Kingdom State Park in neighboring Palo Pinto County is a short drive west.

Possum Kingdom State Park sits in Palo Pinto County, about one hour west of the DFW area. It is on the Brazos River, which drains through western Parker County before reaching the park.

The park offers camping, swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking. The lake has largemouth bass, striped bass, white crappie, catfish, and more. Day-use entry is $4 for adults; children 12 and under are free as of the most recent fee schedule. Cabins and campsites are available by reservation.
