Who Handles Property Tax in Hamilton County

Two separate offices handle property taxes in Hamilton County — one sets your value, the other collects what you owe.

The Hamilton Central Appraisal District (CAD) sets the appraised value of your property. It does not collect taxes. The CAD is at 401 E. Main St. in Hamilton. You go here to apply for exemptions, protest your value, or ask questions about how your property was assessed.

The Tax Assessor-Collector has an office at 102 N. Rice St. in Hamilton. However, according to the Texas Comptroller's county directory, that office does not collect property taxes — Hamilton County is a non-collecting unit. Collection duties fall to the Hamilton Central Appraisal District instead. For questions about your tax bill or payment, contact the CAD directly. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current contact information, since roles and staff can change.
