Tawakoni WMA allows public hunting with a permit

The Tawakoni Wildlife Management Area near Lake Tawakoni is open for public hunting under TPWD's Annual Public Hunting Permit program.

TPWD manages the Tawakoni WMA along Lake Tawakoni. Hunting is restricted to archery and shotgun. Shotguns must use non-toxic shot or no larger than #4 lead shot. Legal game includes white-tailed deer, feral hog, dove, quail, waterfowl, squirrel, and rabbits. Most hunts require the Annual Public Hunting Permit, called the APH.

Some youth waterfowl hunts are offered separately. Rules, open dates, and permit requirements change each season. Always check the TPWD WMA page for current rules before you plan a hunt. A valid Texas hunting license is always required in addition to the APH. Do not rely on last year's rules.
