Vehicle Registration: No Safety Inspection Needed Anymore
As of January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles in Guadalupe County no longer need an annual safety inspection — you just renew your registration, and a $7.50 fee replaces the old inspection.
Texas ended the annual safety inspection for non-commercial passenger vehicles on January 1, 2025 (House Bill 3297). The old "Two Steps One Sticker" program tied an inspection to your registration, but that first step is now gone for most drivers. Guadalupe County is not one of the 17 counties that still require an emissions test, so most county motorists have no inspection step at all — you simply renew your registration each year.
You still pay a one-time $7.50 "inspection program replacement fee" when you renew, even though no inspection is performed. Commercial vehicles and a few other vehicle types must still be inspected. Registration renewal goes through the county Tax Assessor-Collector's office at 307 W. Court St. in Seguin, or online at TxDMV.gov. If you move to Guadalupe County, you have 30 days to update your vehicle registration — missing that window can result in a fine, so act quickly after you move.
