Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site marks where delegates signed the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836.
On March 2, 1836, delegates met at Washington-on-the-Brazos and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico. They also drafted a constitution and formed the first government of the Republic of Texas. The site is now managed by the Texas Historical Commission.
Today the site includes Independence Hall, the Star of the Republic Museum, and the Barrington Living History Farm. You can tour the grounds along the Brazos River.
