Rural Water Supply

Water Wells and Groundwater in Titus County

Rural properties in Titus County often rely on private water wells, and the county sits over aquifers that have been studied by the Texas Water Development Board.

The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has published a detailed bulletin on groundwater resources for Titus County and its neighbors. The county drains into the Sulphur River in the north and Big Cypress Creek in the south. Groundwater from local aquifers supports rural water supply in the region.

If you buy rural property with a private well, it is your responsibility to maintain it. The TWDB keeps records on water wells across the state. Before buying land with a well, you can look up well records and driller reports through the TWDB Groundwater Data Viewer at twdb.texas.gov. TCEQ regulates well construction standards.
