Mount Pleasant: The County Seat

Mount Pleasant is the economic and civic center of Titus County, sitting at the junction of Interstate 30 and U.S. Highway 271.

Mount Pleasant sits about 60 miles southwest of Texarkana and about 105 miles northeast of Dallas. Interstate 30 runs through the city. That highway makes Mount Pleasant a busy stop for the wider region. The city has been the county seat since Titus County was formed in 1846.

Northeast Texas Community College is based in Mount Pleasant. It serves students from several surrounding counties. Major local industries include poultry processing, meat packing, and retail trade for the rural area.

The city grew after railroads arrived in the 1880s. It grew again after oil was found nearby in the 1930s. Tourism from nearby lakes also adds to the local economy.
