Registering Your Car in Titus County

Titus County does not require an emissions test, and as of January 1, 2025, non-commercial vehicles no longer need a safety inspection either — you register directly with the county.

As of January 1, 2025, Texas no longer requires a safety inspection for non-commercial vehicles. That change came from HB 3297, passed by the 88th Legislature. Titus County is not one of the 17 Texas counties that require an emissions test. So if you drive a non-commercial vehicle in Titus County, you do not need a safety inspection or an emissions test before you register.

You register your vehicle directly with the county tax office. The state still collects a fee that used to be paid at an inspection station. Now that fee is collected when you register.

To register a vehicle or transfer a title, contact the Titus County Tax Assessor-Collector office. Check txdmv.gov or dps.texas.gov for current fees. Also check those sites for commercial vehicle rules or any future changes.
